SCI’s Fall Concert of original student works

Cleveland Orchestra readings
As part of the Cleveland Orchestra's ten-year residency at the Frost School of Music, they will be reading student works. This is a remarkable opportunity, really unparalleled at any other school. The date and exact instrumentation for this year's readings are not yet determined; more details in the fall.

SoFF Interfaith Composer-In-Residency program
This year SCI started a professional program where a UM student is named Composer-In-Residence at a local synagogue and church for the academic year. During this time the composer writes two choral works, which are performed at both locations. This is a fantastic and rare opportunity, and provides invaluable experience (and resumé creds!). More information about this will be sent separately, but the application deadline will be right at the start of the fall semester, so think ahead.

Society of Composers Inc.

Society of Composers Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit student organization which has been collaborating with the UM composition department since 1997.  Our goal is to consistently and effectively motivate and aid students in creating powerful and original musical works in any genre.  To do this, SCI supplies all composers of University of Miami with a venue and an audience, and it is the only on-campus method in which daring student works can be heard outside of their academic requirements.  We constantly introduce new and exciting themed concerts in which students fine-tune their composition and performance skills.  In preparing for our concerts, they learn and experience what exactly it takes to put on a concert from composing a piece, to finding the performers, to rehearsing, and finally to performing.  These are the necessary steps which our members commit to amidst UM’s demanding curriculum and the distractions of college life.
